Wingate’s Sean Barnette Named Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate University junior forward/guard Sean Barnette (Rock Hill, S.C.) has been named South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending January 14, league officials announced Monday.
Barnette averaged 23.0 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game last week as he led Wingate (10-4 overall, 3-1 SAC) to two league victories.
In addition, Barnette hit 60.7 percent (17-of-28) of his field
goal tries and 63.6 percent (seven-of-11) from three-point land. On
Monday night, Barnette had 24 points, seven rebounds and four
assists as Wingate defeated Catawba 90-81 in Cuddy Arena. On
Saturday afternoon, Barnette led all scorers with 22 points as the
Bulldogs topped Carson-Newman 87-74. He hit eight-of-12 field goals
and four-of-seven attempts from three-point land in the home win
over the Eagles. Barnette leads the South Atlantic Conference in
scoring with 20.1 points per game.
As a sophomore last season, Barnette was named first team All-SAC and was named the 2006 Food Lion SAC tournament Most Valuable Player. As a first year player in 2004-05, Barnette was named the South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year.
