Wingate’s Sean Barnette Named Men’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Wingate University's Sean Barnette has been named South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player Of The Week, league officials announced today.
Barnette, a senior from Rock Hill, S.C., earns the award for the third time this season.
The Northwestern High School graduate averaged 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in leading the Bulldogs to a pair of league wins over Mars Hill (94-89) on the road Wednesday and Tusculum (81-77) at home Saturday afternoon.
Barnette tallied a double-double (13 points and 13 rebounds)
against the Lions before registering team-highs of 24 points and
eight rebounds in the win over the Pioneers.
Barnette, who leads the team in scoring (19.9 ppg) and rebounding (9.7 rpg) this year, also became the first player in conference history to score 2,000 points for his career. The 2006-07 SAC MVP now has 2,026 points entering this week's play.
The SAC Men's Basketball Player Of The Week is voted on by the league's sports information directors.
