Newberry, Lenoir-Rhyne Doubleheader Available On Web Broadcast
Saturday's men's and women's basketball doubleheader between Newberry College and Lenoir-Rhyne College will be available to watch via broadband Internet streaming. The game can be accessed here.
The women's game tips off at 6 p.m. The Newberry Indians are 5-4 in the SAC and 15-6 overall. Lenoir-Rhyne is 11-9 overall and 2-6 in the SAC.
Newberry, winner of the last two Food Lion SAC Tournaments, was the preseason favorite to win the conference title. Newberry is coming off an 84-77 victory over Mars Hill, which saw Ashley Marine break the school career record for 3-pointers. Tonique Frasier leads the SAC in scoring at 16.2 points per game and is second in rebounding with 10 boards per game.
Amber Holt, the 2007 SAC Freshman of the Year, leads Lenoir-Rhyne, averaging 14.3 points per game, fifth-best in the SAC, and 4.2 assists per game.
The men's game tips off at approximately 8 p.m. The Indians are 4-5 in the SAC and 10-10 overall. The Bears are ranked 23rd in the country and are 16-3 overall and are 8-0 in the SAC. They are the only unbeaten conference team and have won nine games in a row and have lost just one at home this season.
The Bears are the only nationally-ranked team in the South Atlantic Conference, and are led by sixth man Reggie Bratton's 16 points per contest. On a nine-game winning streak, the Bears most recently defeated Brevard by a 77-45 margin. Josh Rudder led Lenoir-Rhyne with 19 points in the win over the Tornados. Thirteen different players scored for Lenoir-Rhyne, which is ranked third in the latest NCAA Division II South Atlantic Region Poll.
Clemente Martin was a preseason All-Conference selection for Newberry and leads the Indians in scoring (18.9) and rebounding (6.4). His scoring average is third-best in the SAC. Kendric Johnson has set the school season record for blocks and needs six blocks to move into first place all-time at Newberry.
Lenoir-Rhyne holds a 22-8 lead over Newberry since the 1981-82 season and has won five straight games in the series.
The next SAC matchup to be webcast this season will be Tusculum's at Carson-Newman on February 16.
