Wingate’s Odell Turner Named Men’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate University's Odell Turner has been named the South Atlantic Conference men's basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 6, 2011.
Turner, a sophomore forward from Charlotte, N.C. (Myers Park HS), averaged 23.5 points per game and shot a sizzling 75 percent (21-of-28) from the floor as the Bulldogs won two games last week. He wins the award for the second time this season.
The 2010 SAC Freshman of the Year had 47 points, 17 rebounds, seven blocked shots, five steals and four assists as the home-standing Bulldogs defeated Catawba 79-64 and Carson-Newman 71-46.
In addition to his 23.5 points per game, Turner corralled 8.5 rebounds per game last week. In the Catawba victory, he posted a SAC season-high 25 points. Against Carson-Newman, Turner recorded his fifth double-double of the season with team-high totals of 22 points and 13 rebounds. He has eight career double-doubles.
On the season, Turner is averaging team-high totals of 14.1
points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game. He tops the Wingate
charts in field goal percentage (50.3) and steals (26). During his
freshman season, Turner led the Bulldogs with 12.1 points per game
and 7.0 rebounds per game.
