SAC Raises More Than $5,000 For Kay Yow Cancer Fund
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The South Atlantic Conference raised a conference-record $5,192.78 for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund this year.
For the third year in a row, the conference had 100 percent participation in the annual Pink Zone challenge.
Teams participating wore pink warm-up shirts or pink shoes, socks or shoelaces during their designated Pink Zone contest. All money raised will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
Lincoln Memorial University led the way in the SAC by raising $2,668.75. During Lincoln Memorial University's "THINK PINK" night on February 12th, the LMU athletics department raised the money through sales of t-shirts, wrist bands, ribbons and a pink basketball that was signed by the University's men's and women's basketball teams. Members of the LMU athletics department sold tickets for a chance to win the ball which was ceremoniously used to tip-off each game to show LMU's cooperation with the South Atlantic Conference and other collegiate institutions throughout the country.
"It is exciting to see our conference member institutions embrace the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and raise such a significant amount in the fight against cancer," said Eliane Kebbe, Assistant Commissioner for the South Atlantic Conference, who has helped coordinate the conference's participation over the past three years. "All of our conference members should be proud of their contribution."
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was started by former North Carolina State University Head Women's Basketball Coach Kay. To make others aware of the seriousness of the disease, colleges and universities throughout the country have joined together in the fight by continuing to raising money in various ways in recognition of an affliction that has effected so many.
