Brevard’s Moose, Wingate’s Burton Selected as SAC Basketball Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Brevard forward Darius Moose and Wingate guard Nikki Burton both averaged over 20 points-per-game last week, and on Monday were selected as the SAC Basketball Players of the Week, the conference office announced.
Moose averaged 25 points and 8.5 rebounds in Brevard's two games last week. On Wednesday at Newberry, the sophomore scored 19 points on eight-of-12 shooting in addition to recording four steals for the Tornados in a losing effort.
He followed that up with a dominant performance on Saturday as Brevard handed Anderson its first SAC loss of the season.
Moose went nine-of-12 from the field and 10-of-12 from the foul line against the Trojans to finish with a career-high 31 points. He also pulled down nine rebounds in the upset victory.
On the week, Moose shot an efficient 70.8 percent from the field and 80-percent from the free-throw line.
Burton, meanwhile, continued her all-around strong play for Wingate, averaging 22.5 points and nine boards as the Bulldogs picked up wins over Anderson and Lincoln Memorial.
On Wednesday against AU, Burton tallied 23 points and 12 rebounds in addition to four assists and three steals. She then scored 22 points in Wingate's victory against LMU - keeping the Bulldogs just one game back of Catawba for the top spot in the SAC standings.
Burton shot an even 60-percent in the two games and also averaged three assists and 2.5 steals.
