Lenoir-Rhyne’s Beasley, Catawba’s McPhail Named SAC Basketball Players of the Week
Lenoir-Rhyne forward B.J. Beasley and Catawba center Antoinette McPhail have been selected as the SAC Basketball Players of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Lenoir-Rhyne forward B.J. Beasley and Catawba center Antoinette McPhail have been selected as the SAC Basketball Players of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Beasley led the Lenoir-Rhyne men to double-digit wins over Catawba and Brevard by averaging a double-double of 21.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. He also shot a highly-efficient 72.2-percent from the field in the two games.
Beasley opened his week by scoring 25 points on 8-of-10 shooting on Wednesday in an 86-74 overtime win at Catawba. He also pulled down 12 rebounds and had four steals in the game.
On Saturday, the senior had another double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds in a 71-60 victory over Brevard. Seven of the rebounds were on the offensive glass.
On the week, Beasley went 17-of-25 from the foul line and added four assists. He is averaging 9.0 points and 6.2 rebounds this season for the Bears.
McPhail kept the Catawba women in contention for the SAC title by averaging 19 points and eight rebounds in wins over Lenoir-Rhyne and Tusculum.
On Wednesday against L-R, McPhail finished with a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds as the Indians won, 59-49.
She followed that performance with 17 points and five boards on Saturday in an 83-62 victory at Tusculum.
Overall, McPhail shot 61.5 percent and recorded five steals in the pair of games. She is currently third in the SAC in rebounding at 8.2 per game and 11th in scoring average at 12.0.
