Top Seeded Lincoln Memorial Moves to SAC Men's Hoops Championship Game with 105-81 Win Over No. 5 Newberry
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The top-seed Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters advanced to the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Championship game as it defeated No. 5 Newberry 105-81 on Saturday night at Timmons Arena. With the win, Lincoln Memorial improved to 28-2 on the year, while Newberry wrapped up its regular season and SAC tournament at 18-12.
Jalen Steele topped the Railsplitters, who are currently No. 2 in the nation, with 30 points on 12-of-17 shooting and 5-of-9 from distance. Teammate Gerel Simmons was just shy of 20 points as he finished with 19 points in the contest.
Luquon Choice chipped in six assists and 15 points, followed by Emanuel Terry with 12 points.
The Newberry offense was fueled by Xavier Holmes who cashed in on 7-of-11 from the field and a pair at the line. Brandon Taylor was also in double-digits in scoring with 10 points.
James Stepp led a bevy of Newberry players who posted an assist as he dished out four on the night.
Lincoln Memorial will play the winner of No. 2 Queens/No. 3 Wingate winner on Sunday, March 6 in the finals of the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Championship. Tip is slated for 4:00pm.
