The South Atlantic Conference to Have Televised Hoops Double-Header on Saturday
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference will have a televised doubleheader this Saturday, February 4th as Wingate travels to No. 21 Lincoln Memorial for a showdown on the American Sports Network. The games are a part of the NCAA Division II Showcase. The Lincoln Memorial vs. Wingate women's game will have an early tip off at 12:00pm EST and the men will begin at 2:00pm following the women's game.
"Division II's broadcast agreement will continue to highlight Division II student-athletes and their accomplishments on a national stage," said Terri Steeb Gronau, vice president of Division II. "This is an exciting opportunity for men's and women's basketball student-athletes to demonstrate that they are not only great students and members of their community, but that they are truly skilled athletes as well."
The No. 5 Lincoln Memorial women have enjoyed a perfect season so far with a program and SAC record 20-0 mark as the Lady Railsplitters are one of three teams undefeated nationally. The match-up will feature some of the SAC's most talented women as three-time Player of the Week Megan Pittman will look to extend her team's winning streak through the weekend. Pittman currently ranks fifth in the SAC with 16.4 points per game and seventh in three-point percentage with a clip of 44.4 percent from deep. Josey Harding of Lincoln Memorial leads the entire league in rebounding averaging 11.0 rebounds per game. Wingate, currently ranked No. 2 in the SAC standings at 12-3, features two of the most potent scorers in the league in Danasia Witherspoon converting over half of her shots at 52.5 percent shooting for the season and Caroline Averett who currently ranks first in the SAC in three-point shooting marking 55.0 percent from beyond the arc.
On the men's side the Bulldogs come into the contest ranked third in the SAC with a conference record of 11-4. The Bulldogs are in the midst of an eleven-game win streak and will look to extend that against the Railsplitters. The Bulldogs will have to defend the perimeter well this Saturday as Deshawn Patterson and Luquon Choice are first and second in the SAC respectively from three-point range this year. Patterson is currently connecting on 54.1 percent, while Choice is close behind with a 50.3 percent conversion rate. The Railsplitters come into the game on a streak of their own winning their last seven. Lincoln Memorial, ranked 21st nationally, currently stands with a conference record of 12-3. In their last meeting, Lincoln Memorial came out with an 84-72 victory.
