The South Atlantic Conference Announces Seeds for the 2017 SAC Men's Basketball Championship
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – No. 11 Lincoln Memorial and No. 12 Queens finished the SAC season with identical 19-3 records to share the 2016-17 South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Regular Season Championship. Lincoln Memorial's 2-0 record vs. Wingate broke the tie to earn the Railsplitters the No. 1 seed in next week's South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Championship, it was determined today as the Conference season concluded this afternoon. Queens will be the No. 2 seed and the titles are LMU's fifth-straight and Queens first-ever.
Wingate landed the No. 3 seed with a 16-6 SAC regular season record. Carson-Newman's 15-7 SAC record was good for the No. 4 seed and at No. 5 was Newberry who finished the 2016-17 season SAC season with a 13-9 mark. Catawba landed at No. 6 in the bracket as it went 12-10 on the SAC season, ahead of Anderson who came in at No. 7 with an 11-11 record in SAC play. Tusculum and Lenoir-Rhyne closed out the season with 9-13 records. Tusculum's 1-1 record vs. Wingate broke the tie to give it the No. 8 seed.
The 2017 South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Championship quarterfinals will be played at campus sites on Wednesday, March 1 before moving to Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C. for the semifinals and finals on March 4 and 5. The South Atlantic Conference's Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament. The Conference Championship schedule is as follows:
