Lenoir-Rhyne's Simmons Named AstroTurf Men's Basketball Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lenoir-Rhyne guard Darius Simmons has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played January 28 through February 3, the Conference announced today.
Simmons, a sophomore from Raleigh, N.C., led the Bears to a perfect week with wins over No. 6/9 Queens (92-79), handing the Royals their first SAC loss of the season, and Carson-Newman (100-91) in overtime. He was an instant force off of the bench in both games, converting 9-of-12 from the field and a scorching 7-of-8 from three-point range. On the week, Simmons averaged 13.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, and one assist in only 29 minutes of action.
