The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf SAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week, Mar. 9
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lenoir-Rhyne's Jay Goldsmith was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Andy Reilly of Brevard was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for games played Mar. 2-8, the League announced today.
Goldsmith, a senior from Jamestown, N.C., scored a Lenoir-Rhyne single-game record seven goals to lead the Bears to a 16-11 win over Florida Southern on March 2. The attacker totaled 12 shots in the contest to finish with a 58 shot percentage, to go along with a shot on goal percentage of 75 percent. Goldsmith also added two ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers in the win. The honor marks his first Offensive Player of the Week selection this season.
Reilly a senior from Delmar, N.Y., totaled 39 saves as Brevard went 1-1 last week. He highlighted his week with 28 saves and a save percentage of 72 percent as the Tornados defeated Catawba, 14-11, on March 7. He also posted 11 saves against Belmont Abbey on March 4. In the two-game span, Reilly posted a save percentage of 64 percent in 120:00 in goal. The award is his second Defensive Player of the Week plaudit this season.
Also nominated for Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week: Sam Postma (Brevard), Mike Martiello (Coker), Evan Farkas (Queens) and Ryan Vogrig (Wingate).
