Queens Sweeps South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for games played during the sixth weekend of the 2021 season. Queens swept both awards with Austin Leonard garnering the offensive honor and teammate Kyle Hornik collecting the defensive honor.
A junior midfielder Leonard, helped the Royals to a 2-0 conference record this past week. He netted four points with four goals, while also adding two ground balls in their 13-12 upset over No. 6 Wingate. Leonard went on to score five points with five goals, three ground balls and two caused turnover a 20-12 win over Mars Hill. Overall, the Matthews, N.C., native garnered nine points on nine goals while also picking up five ground balls and two caused turnovers. This is Leonard's first Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
A graduate student goalie, Hornik, was instrumental in securing the Royals two wins over conference opponents No. 6 Wingate and Mars Hill this past weekend. Overall, The Hillsborough N.C., native tallied 28 saves, while only allowing 12 goals in each game for a 53.3 save percentage. This is Hornik's first Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
