SAC-Record 23 Named USILA Men's Lacrosse All-Americans; Four Earn Individual Awards
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – A SAC-record 23 student-athletes have been named USILA Men's Lacrosse All-Americans and four of the nine individual awards went to SAC players.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Victor Powell was named the William C. Schmeisser Defensive Player of the Year while Wingate's Willie Grieco was the Lt. Col. JI Turnbull Outstanding Attackman. LR also had the Short Stick Defensive Midfielder of the Year in Colten McCracken and Wingate's Joe Karnich was announced as the Long Pole Midfielder of the Year.
The SAC had six All-American attack with Grieco earning First Team accolades and Scott Reed (Newberry) and Zachary Terry (Limestone) were named Second Teamers. LR's Evan Voss, Limestone's Jason Thomfohrde and Wingate's Danny Riley were announced as Honorable Mention All-American's.
At midfield, five different players were All-American's led by Newberry's Baker Westmoreland who garnered First Team accolades. Austin Lamoureaux of Limestone was a Third Teamer and Curtis Bukta (Newberry), Michael McGarry (Limestone) and Ryan Duncan (Lenoir-Rhyne) were Honorable Mentions.
Five more All-Americans came at defense led by Powell on the First Team. Peyton Farley of Wingate was a Second Team selection and Jack Travassos of Newberry was a Third Teamer. Joey Masson (LR) and Jaiden Terry (Limestone) were named to the Honorable Mention list.
McCracken was a First Team SSDM while Wingate's Trent Connolly was an Honorable Mention. At Long Stick, Karnich was a First Team selection and Brock Strong of Newberry was an Honorable Mention.
At specialist, Rob Pensabene of LR was a Second Team All-American goalie and Wingate's Thomas Sullivan earned Honorable Mention while LR's Matthew Mancini was an Honorable Mention All-American at face-off.
