TC’s Men’s Soccer Places Four on All-Region Team
MISSION, Kan. The Tusculum College men's soccer team had its most successful season in six years, and as a result, four Pioneers have been named to the NSCAA/adidas Southeast Region Team. Tusculum's four honorees are the most ever by the school in a season and along with Queens University, had the most players on the all-region team. TC also boasted the most honorees among South Atlantic Conference schools.
Sophomore forward Paul Hopkins (Portsmouth, England) and senior midfielder David Ormesher (Brisbane, Australia) earned first team honors. Hopkins scored 28 goals and 69 points which led the nation in both categories. His totals were the second-best in SAC history and ranked third in the Tusculum record books.
Ormesher set a new school record with 19 assists, breaking the mark that stood for 10 years. That assist mark is the third-best in the SAC record books. He also scored 18 goals for 55 points, the fourth-most in school history.
Defender Scott Hanger earns All-Region accolades for the third time in his career. The senior from Brisbane, Australia, named to the second team, helped anchor a defense that allowed just 12 goals all season and shutout 13 opponents, a school record and the best in the nation.
Senior goalkeeper Tony Swaminathan (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) enjoyed a banner season in his final year with the Pioneers. He set a new school record with 10 shutouts and his 0.61 goals against average smashed the previous record and was the second-best in SAC history. He was also named to the Verizon Academic All-America Men's Soccer Second Team.
The Pioneers' 17 wins and 0.833 winning percentage were the most by a Tusculum team since the 1992 squad that went 19-3.
