Lenoir-Rhyne Men's Soccer Places Three On The All-Region First Team
Ged Quinn, Aaron Wheeler and Luis Carrizosa all earned NSCAA/adidas All-Appalachian Region First-Team honors
Mission, Kan. - Three members of the Lenoir-Rhyne College Men's Soccer Team earned NSCAA/adidas All-Appalachian First-Team accolades, announced today.
Freshman midfielder Aaron Wheeler (Baltimore, Md.), sophomore forward Luis Carrizosa (North Bergen, N.J.) and senior defender Ged Quinn (Jarrow, England) were all selected to the first team.
Quinn finished the year with four goals including three game-winners and was named the 2006 South Atlantic Conference Co-MVP, the first player in school history to earn the award.
Quinn also was named to the Daktronics All-Appalachian Region and All-SAC First Teams and was selected to the NCAA Division II Appalachian Regional All-Tournament squad.
Wheeler and Carrizosa were named to the 2006 All-SAC First Team as well while Wheeler finished second on the team in goals (nine) and points (20) and, like Quinn, earned All-Appalachian Region All-Tournament accolades.
Carrizosa, meanwhile, tallied four goals, four assists and 12 points for the year.
The three led Lenoir-Rhyne to its best season in school history with a record of 19-1-1. The Bears finished the year ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division II while winning the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs.
Presbyterian
Three Presbyterian men's soccer players were named to the 2006 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Appalachian Region team.
Forward Brandon Tucker was selected to the first team, while goalkeeper Mark Owens and defender John Odum were named to the second team.
Tucker led the Blue Hose offensive attack all season, ending the 2006 regular season with a team-high tying four goals and a team-best five assists for a squad-high 13 points.
The Englewood, Colo. native was an All-South Atlantic Conference first team member at the conclusion of the 2006 campaign and an all-region selection last season.
A first team All-SAC choice, Odum acquired two assists this past season for PC, but more importantly the junior was a stalwart on defense, helping the team to allow only 12 goals the entire year.
A native of Aiken, S.C., Odum was also an all-region selection in 2005.
Owens' second team nod garners him his second straight All-Appalachian region plaudits.
Owens (Charleston, S.C.) did not pick up all-conference accolades in 2006, but finished the 2006 regular season as the league leader in save percentage at .879.
Newberry

He is also the first Indian men's soccer player to named to any all-region team since Rick Ladimir in 2001.
Founded in 1856, Newberry College is affiliated with the South Carolina, Southeastern, Florida-Bahamas, and Caribbean Synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Newberry is a proud member institution of the NCAA Division II and the South Atlantic Conference, a league comprised of eight colleges and universities in North and South Carolina and Tennessee.
