Wingate’s Junior Nyemb named Men’s Soccer Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate University freshman forward Junior Nyemb (Douala, Cameroon) is this week's South Atlantic Conference men's soccer Player of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday afternoon.
Last week, Nyemb (pronounced "yem") scored two goals and added one assist as Wingate won three NCAA Division II Appalachian Region matches and one SAC match en route to a 3-0 record for the week.
Nyemb had the first two-goal match of his young Bulldog career
in a 7-0 regional win over Ohio Valley University on Sunday. Nyemb
also tallied the match-winner against the Fighting Scots. Earlier
in the week, Nyemb scored Wingate's first goal in a 2-1 SAC home
win over Newberry Wednesday night.
On the season, Nyemb shares the team lead in goals (four) and tops the team charts in total points (nine). He earns SAC men's soccer Player of the Week honors for the first time in his young career.
Wingate (5-2 overall) has won four matches in a row.
The SAC Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
