SAC Names Catawba's Smith, Wingate's Montgomery Soccer Players of the Week
Catawba midfielder Carson Smith and Wingate forward Jade Montgomery have been selected as the SAC Soccer Players of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Catawba midfielder Carson Smith and Wingate forward Jade Montgomery have been selected as the SAC Soccer Players of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Smith led Catawba to a pair of victories last week by scoring two goals and adding an assist.
The senior scored the game-winner in overtime against No. 17 Mars Hill on Friday, lifting the Indians to a 2-1 victory.
Earlier in the week, he notched a goal and an assist in Catawba's 4-1 non-conference win over Chowan.
Smith has three goals and six assists on the season.

Montgomery, meanwhile, continued to add to her SAC-leading goal total last week by scoring three times in Wingate's victories over Newberry and Brevard.
In Wednesday's 3-2 win over Newberry, Montgomery recorded her fourth multi-goal game of the season, scoring twice – including an equalizer with under five minutes remaining in regulation.
She then added another goal in WU's 3-0 shutout of Brevard on Saturday.
Montgomery now has 11 goals on the season and is also second in the conference with 22 points.
