SAC Announces Men’s Soccer Award Winners

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The SAC on Wednesday announced its 2013 men's soccer award winners, a list headlined by conference Player of the Year Ross Frame of Carson-Newman.

Frame had a monster offensive season for Carson-Newman, leading the SAC in points with 39, goals with 15 and assists with nine. Behind Frame, the Eagles won seven-straight matches to close the season and earned the No. 3 seed in the Food Lion SAC Soccer Championship.

Frame also finished second in the conference with 41 shots on goal and tied for second with three game-winners.

Joining Frame as forwards on the All-SAC First Team are Wingate's Peron Da Silva, Lincoln Memorial's Mario Pinto and Coker's Daniel Jackson.

Jackson and Pinto – last season's SAC Player of the Year - tied for second in the SAC with 14 goals apiece, while Da Silva tied for fifth with 10 goals. Pinto's 32 points were second, Jackson's 30 points were third and Da Silva's 22 points were seventh in the conference.

Earning All-SAC First Team midfield accolades are Wingate's Shaun Gadsby, Carson-Newman's Sindre Welo and Queens' Thiago Andrade and Yannick Fischbach.

Andrade tied for fifth in the SAC with 10 goals and tied for second with seven assists, Welo tied for fourth in the conference with six assists, Fischbach tied for sixth in assists with five and Gadsby tied for fifth with five assists and tied for 11th with six goals.

The All-Conference First Team defensive unit is made up of Wingate's Gui Andrade and Victor Tozeli, Anderson's Lars Zimmerman and Coker's Fernando Bedoya.

Andrade finished with three goals and an assist, Tozelli recorded three assists, Zimmerman scored a pair of goals and added an assist and Bedoya closed the regular season with two assists.

Completing the All-SAC First Team is Carson-Newman keeper Rumwald Le Guevel, who finished second in the conference with 73 saves and ranked third by stopping 79.3-percent of opponents' shots.

Queens defender Jonathan Onyeaka was voted as the SAC Freshman of the Year after scoring four times and helping the Royals allow a SAC-low 16 goals during the regular season. He was also selected to the All-SAC Second Team.

Accompanying Onyeaka as All-SAC Second Team defenders are teammate Gregorio Pestana, Mars Hill's Gregg Munn and LMU's Callum Home.

Anderson's Andre Carle, Lenoir-Rhyne's Ben Jones and Mars Hill's Felipe Ferraro were named All-SAC Second Team forwards, while Coker's Tony Quiroz, Wingate's Liam Gillesphey and LMU's Yuri Passos and Leonardo Da Silva earned second-team accolades at midfield. Queens' Montrell Morgan rounds out the Second Team at goalkeeper.

Finally, after leading his team to the SAC regular-season title in the program's first season in the conference, Queens' Oliver Carias was named the SAC Coach of the Year. The Royals went 13-3 overall and 9-2 in conference play during the regular season, and were ranked as high as No. 11 in the NSCAA national poll.
