Wingate Leads Men's and Women's SAC Swimming Championships After Day One
Charlotte, N.C. (TheSAC.com) - The Wingate Bulldogs won eight of the ten events on day one of the South Atlantic Conference Men's and Women's Swimming Championships, putting them at the top of the standings on both the men's and women's sides.
Wingate claimed the first ever gold medal for the SAC Swimming championships in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:41.79 and a team of Marta Beesmans Barquero, Amanda Wenhold, Kelsea Munro, and Natalia Dwojak. Carson-Newman's Kyla Blakemore, Breanna Belcher, Lily Parr, and Kennadi King took silver with a time of 1:43.03, and Catawba's Diamond Mosley, Hannah Koopmans, Marit Reckmann, and Bridgette Pearson claimed bronze with a time of 1:46.57. Wingate earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
On the men's side, Carson-Newman took gold in the 200 medley relay (1:28.26) thanks to Arthur Gluzman, Asger Hartvig, Will Humphreys, and Ridge McCay. Catawba's Isaac Haut, Rodrigo Yus Fernandez, Alejandro Alvarez, and Ofek Malul earned silver with a time of 1:33.25, and Lenoir-Rhyne's Nathan McCormick, Davis Hull, Matt Stein, and Chris Forsey with a time of 1:36.77. Carson-Newman earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
In the women's 1000 freestyle, Wingate's Kaitlyn Agger took gold with a time of 9:57.20, Carson-Newman's Rachel Peden earned silver with a time of 10:10.32, and Wingate's Franziska Muhlberger won bronze with a time of 10:24.94. Agger and Peden both earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
In the men's 1000 freestyle, Wingate's Miguel Marcos Bargueno earned gold with a time of 9:11.02 while teammate Michele Orru finished second with a time of 9:23.91, and Mars Hill's Raul Briceno claimed bronze with a time of 9:24.88. All three men earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
Wingate's Natalia Dwojak touched the wall first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:03.08, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne's Lisa Boernigen who claimed silver with a time of 2:03.12 and Wingate's Lillian Sanocki who earned bronze with a time of 2:05.53. Dwojak and Boernigen both earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
The men's 200 individual medley was claimed by Wingate's Marcel Snitko with a time of 1:47.20 and closely followed by Lenoir-Rhyne's Micah McRea with a time of 1:47.37. Wingate's Balint Kovacs earned bronze with a time of 1:49.57. All three men earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
In the women's 50 freestyle, Carson-Newman's Manon Compagner took gold with a time of 22.78, Wingate's Lucinda Andrews earned second with a time of 23.26, and teammate Kelsea Munro finished third with a time of 23.29. All three women earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
For the men's 50 freestyle Wingate's Viacheslav Ohnov earned gold with a time of 19.98, Carson-Newman's Arthur Gluzman took silver with a time of 20.19, and teammate Ridge McCay earned bronze with a time of 20.31. All three men earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
The meet concluded with the 200 freestyle relay. On the women's side, Wingate's Lucinda Andrews, Natalia Dwojak, Amanda Wenhold, and Kelsea Munro had the top finish with a time of 1:32.75. Carson-Newman's Kennadi King, Chrisman Rand, Emma Bowling, and Lily Parr took silver with a time of 1:34.68, and Catawba's Maria Castano, Marit Reckmann, Bridgette Pearson, and Emily Heim earned bronze with a time of 1:36.60. Wingate earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
The men's 200 freestyle relay was won by Wingate's Viacheslav Ohnov, Ney Chagas Filho, Jonatan Carlsson, and Marcel Snitko. Carson-Newman's Arthur Gluzman, Wander Sousa, Ridge McCay, and Hobson Stelling took silver with a time of 1:21.00, and Catawba's Alejandro Alvarez, Ofek Malul, Isaac Haut, and Rodrigo Yus Fernandez earned bronze with a time of 1:24.85. Wingate earned an NCAA DII B cut in the event.
