Newberry’s Maxim Sukharev Named Men’s Tennis Player Of The Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Maxim Sukharev of Newberry College has been named this season's first South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week announced league officials Tuesday.

Sukharev, a sophomore from Vilnius, Lithuania, led the Indians to a 7-2 win over North Georgia. Sukharev recorded a 6-4, 6-3 win over North Georgia's Jacob Eastwood at No. 1 singles. He preceded that with an 8-2 pro set victory over the North Georgia duo of Samuel Moore and Grant Patrick at No. 2 doubles with teammate Lucas Mattos.

Sukharev was a first team all-South Atlantic Conference selection after the 2007 season. This is the first South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week award the sophomore has earned in his career.

The SAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week is selected by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
