Newberry’s Jeremy Smith Named Men’s Tennis Player Of The Week

ROCK HILL, SC -- Jeremy Smith of Newberry College has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week announced league officials Tuesday.

Smith, a sophomore from Durban, South Africa, went 2-0 in singles and doubles as the Indians posted a pair of wins over No. 38 Ferris State (7-2) and Brevard (8-1).

The Indians win over Ferris State, their first record victory over a nationally ranked opponent, was sparked by Smith who won at No. 3 singles over Bryan Karazia (6-3, 2-6, 6-4). He followed that with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Brevard's Jared Fisher.

The SAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week is selected by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
