Pairings Announced For 2008 Food Lion SAC Men’s Tennis Tournament
ROCK HILL, SC - Tusculum College, which won its third South Atlantic Conference men's tennis championship with an undefeated conference record, is the top seed for the Food Lion SAC men's tennis tournament.
No. 35 Tusculum (7-0 SAC, 17-1 overall) will host Lenoir-Rhyne College (0-7 SAC, 0-9) in quarterfinal action on Tuesday.
Mars Hill College (6-1 SAC, 13-4) is the second seed. The Lions will host Lincoln Memorial (1-6 SAC, 3-9) on Tuesday.
Newberry (5-2 SAC, 8-6) is the third seed.
There was a three-way tie for fourth-place in the regular-season standings between Wingate, Carson-Newman and Catawba at 3-4.
The three teams split with each other during the regular season. All three lost to the top three seeds and defeated the two lower seeds. The next tiebreaker used is match scores against all tied teams. Carson-Newman's match scores were 9-8 against the other two teams, Wingate was 9-9, and Catawba was 8-9.
Catawba (3-4, 12-10) was awarded the sixth seed and will travel to Newberry for a quarterfinal match on Tuesday.
Using the head-to-head tiebreaker, Wingate defeated Carson-Newman 5-4 during the regular season, and was awarded the fourth seed. Wingate (3-4, 8-12) will host Carson-Newman (3-4, 6-5) in the other quarterfinal match on Tuesday.
The semifinals and finals will be held at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill,S.C. The semifinals will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, with the semifinal winners meeting for the tournament championship on Saturday at noon.
The tournament winner will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Tournament.
