Brevard’s McCormick Named Men’s Tennis Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, SC -- Brevard College's Scott McCormick has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending April 4, announced conference officials Tuesday.
McCormick, a senior from Adelaide, Australia (Wichita State), helped guide the Tornados to a 2-0 week, winning all four of his matches as the Tornados have won 10 of their last 11 matches as a team overall.
He defeated Tusculum's Tony Bujana, 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday and took down Carson-Newman's Dusty Davis on Sunday, 6-0, 6-0. In Sunday's match, McCormick dropped only one point in the second set.
McCormick combined with Beau Wills twice at No. 1 doubles, as the duo defeated Tusculum's Luis Zamora and Gui Carvalho, 8-5, before topping Carson-Newman's Trent Slagle and Chris Acker 8-0 on Saturday to improve to 11-1 in doubles on the season.
For the season, McCormick is 15-1 (5-0 SAC) overall at No. 1
singles with victories over Division I Furman and UNC Asheville,
and has won 13 straight singles matches overall. In doubles play,
he is 11-5, 5-0 SAC on the year, having won his last eight doubles
matches. McCormick is currently the 20th-rated player in the
Southeast Region according to the latest ITA rankings.
