Wingate’s Fernando Montemurro Named Men’s Tennis Player Of The Week

ROCK HILL, SC -- Wingate University's Fernando Montemurro has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending April 11, announced conference officials Tuesday.

Montemurro, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, went 2-0 in singles action and doubles action on the week, which included a huge win over No. 29 Anderson Monday.

Montemurro picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Juan Vallejo-Gonzale in No. 5 singles against Coker, while teaming with Greg Machado for an 8-0 win in No. 3 doubles. He and Machado took an 8-3 doubles win on Monday against Anderson's Deni Mehagic and Loic Ambrose. Montemurro won 7-5, 7-6 over Trey Halbauer in No. 5 singles to lead the No. 39 Bulldogs to a 5-4 win over Anderson to remain undefeated in the league.
