The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Coker's Tony McElveen Jr. was named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, and Carson-Newman's Jahvad McDermott was named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested Jan. 22-28, the League office announced today.

McElveen, a junior from Florence, S.C., set two new Coker records in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes at the JDL College Dual Meet Madness last week. He posted a time of 6.92 seconds in the 60-meter and he finished at 22.51 seconds in the 200-meter. Both times were good enough for second place in the respective races.

McDermott, a junior from Brooklyn, N.Y., took home first and second place honors at the Finn Pincus Invitational last week. He won the high jump, clearing a height of 2.03 meters and placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 14.57 meters.

The award is McElveen's second Track Athlete of the Week honor this season, and it is McDermott's first Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
