The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Christian Shouse was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, and Queens' Martin Knauer was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the first week of the indoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.
Shouse, a freshman multi-event competitor from Jacksboro, Tenn., won the heptathlon with a combined 5,007 points at the Bast-Cregger Invitational last week. He won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.07, placed first in the long jump with a jump of 6.94 meters, first in the high jump with a leap of 2.09 meters and was second in the shot put with a 11.57 meter throw and second in the pole vault with a jump of 3.84 meters. His 5,007 points makes him an NCAA Division II provisional qualifier.
Knauer, a junior thrower from Wolnzach, Germany, won the shot put at the App State Open with a distance of 16.35 meters, which is also good enough for an NCAA Division II provisional mark. In addition to his winning throw, Knauer placed third in the weight throw with a toss of 15.92 meters. Both marks currently lead the SAC.
The award is Shouse's first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season, and it is Knauer's first Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
