Record Breaking Performances Highlight Day One of 2023 SAC Indoor Track & Field Championships
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (TheSAC.com) – Five South Atlantic Conference men's and women's indoor track & field records were broken during the opening day of competition at the 2023 SAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Saturday (Feb. 25).
Lincoln Memorial's Elizabeth Close set a new women's pentathlon 800-meter record with her time of 2:31.21. A pair of Newberry weight throwers set new marks in both the men's and women's weight throw. Irma Watson-Perez set the women's mark at 17.83 meters, while Jase Hunter had a toss of 18.84 meters in the men's event.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Jacob Wadsworth set a meet record in the men's long jump with a leap of 7.44 meters and Catawba's MeKayla White posted a record-setting 6.03-meter jump in the women's long jump.
After the first day of action, Wingate leads the way in the women's championship with 57 points, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne with 46 points and Catawba with 34.
In the men's meet, Wingate holds a slim lead with 50 points, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne with 47 and Catawba in third with 33.
The 2023 SAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will conclude on Sunday (Feb. 26) at JDL Fast track beginning at 9 a.m. Follow all the action live online at www.thesac.com.
