Wingate Men and Women Capture 2023 South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship Titles

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (TheSAC.com) – The Wingate Men's and Women's indoor track and field teams both took home the title of the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships at the JDL Fast Track on Sunday (Feb. 26). 

Wingate women scored 203 team points to finish first, followed by Lenoir-Rhyne with 133.5 and Catawba coming third with with 80 points. 

On the men's side, the Bulldogs scored 178 points, with Lenoir-Rhyne in second with 156 points and Carson-Newman in third with 69 points. 

The Women's Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year was awarded to Lenoir-Rhyne's Alexis Brown, while the Men's Freshman of the Year was awarded to Wingate's Hamza Chahhid. Lenoir-Rhyne's Melody Jones was awarded the Women's Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet, while teammate Kennedy Conner earned the Women's Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet. 

Lenoir-Rhyne's Jacob Wadsworth claimed both the Men's Outstanding Track and Field Athlete of the Meet and Lenoir-Rhyne's Head Coach Kevin Paterson was awarded the Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.
