The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Devon Moore was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, while Queens' Ricko Meckes was named AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested March 11 through March 17, the Conference office announced today.
Moore, a sophomore from Baxley, Ga., took home first place honors at the Southside Power & Fitness Invitational 100-meter dash. His time of 10.46 seconds was an NCAA Division II provisional time and it ranks him third in the nation in the 100-meter dash. This is Moore's first outdoor track athlete of the week honor this season.
Meckes, a senior from Germany, posted an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying throw of 74.25 meters in the javelin throw at the Charlotte 49er Open. In addition to qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Championship, Meckes also took home first place honors and set a new Queens record in the process. This is the first outdoor field athlete of the week honor for Meckes this season.
