Queens Men Win 2019 SAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship
HICKORY, N.C. (TheSAC.com) – The Queens University of Charlotte men's won the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships by a wide margin after the two-day event at the Irwin Belk Track, culminating on Saturday, April 20.
The Royals had five individual gold medalists on the final day of the meet with four records being broken. In the 800 meter dash, Seb Anthony crossed the line in 1:52.82. Daniel Wallis finished the 1,500 meter run in just under four minutes (3:59.81). Martin Knauer had himself a day in the field with two record-breaking performances. In the shot put, his throw of 18.07 meters (59' 3.5") set a new conference and championship meet record, while in the discus, Knauer hurled it for a distance of 50.03 meters (164' 2"), a championship-record performance. Gudmundur Danielsson racked up 6,182 points in the decathlon, good for the most in event history.
Lenoir-Rhyne finished with four top-tier performances of its own. Lucas Besong won the 400 meter dash in 48.23 seconds, while Anthony Brown claimed the title in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 14.65 seconds. The Bears' relay teams swept the two events. For a new SAC and championship meet record, Lenoir-Rhyne finished the 4x100 meter race in 40.47 seconds, while in the 4x400 meter relay, they teamed up to cross the line in 3:18.44.
Tusculum and Carson-Newman collected three gold medals each on the final day of competition.
For the Pioneers, Widchard Guervil swept the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes in 10.32 and 21.40 seconds, respectively. Guillaume Devries claimed the high jump title with a leap of two meters flat (6' 6.75").
As for the Eagles, Luke Greer crossed the line in the 5,000 meter race in 14:55.50, while Caleb Agee completed the 400 meter hurdles in 54.13 seconds. Teammate Jahvad McDermott won the triple jump with a mark of 14.82 meters (48' 7.5").
