The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry's Kayln Cook was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, while teammate Parker Pitts was named AstroTurf Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the first week of the 2021 outdoor season, the Conference office announced today.
Cook, a sophomore sprinter from Lexington, S.C., earned a pair of top-15 finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at the Susan Rouse Invitational last week. He turned in a time of 11.27 seconds in the 100-meter and 23.09 seconds in the 200-meter. Both times place Cook in the top-three all-time at Newberry.
Pitts, a freshman thrower from Prosperity, S.C., won the javelin with a 49.25-meter toss, placed third in the discus with a toss of 40.36 meters and placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 12.58 meters at the Susan Rouse Invitational last week. Pitts is now the program record holder in the javelin and is No. 2 all-time in the discus and shot put.
