NCAA T&F DAY 2 RECAP: Wingate's Le Grix is National Champion; Lenoir-Rhyne's Brown Sets NCAA Mark
PUEBLO, COLO. -- Wingate's Titouan Le Grix won his second straight NCAA Division II National Championship in the 3000 steeplechase on Friday night while Lenoir-Rhyne's Alexis Brown broke the NCAA DiI women's 200m in prelims.
Le Grix won by over 10 seconds to claim his third career national title.
Brown's 22.35 eclipsed the previous mark of 22.62 as she qualified for Saturday's final in the event.
LR wasn't done as Oliver Thatcher earned All-American status in the decathlon with his 10th place finish. He becomes the thrid multi All-American in program history.
Tusculum's Jahzara Hart finished ninth in the women's 200 meters and junior Theresa Green-White was 19th overall in the women's 100-meter hurdles for the Pioneers, leaving both runners out of Saturday's championship field.
Lincoln Memorial's Sterling Webb earned a 10th place finish in the women's heptathlon at nationals. She took 8th place in the 100mH, finishing in the 14.35, 9th place in the high jump with a height of 5ft, 3in., 16th in the shot put with a distance of 27ft, 6 3/4in., 10th in the 200m, finishing in 24.88, 8th in the long jump with a distance of 18ft, 2 1/4in., 13th in the javelin throw with a distance of 89ft., and 7th place in the 800m with a time of 2:22.83, securing 10th place overall in the event.
