Tusculum’s Holzapfel, Anderson’s Bishoff Named Cross Country Runners Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Tusculum College's Simon Holzapfel and Anderson University's Whitney Bishoff have been named the South Atlantic Conference men's and women's cross country Runners of the Week for the week ending October 3, 2010.
Holzapfel, a senior from Nuremberg, Germany (Neves Gymnasium Nuremberg) recorded his fourth straight individual title of the season, by winning the Maryville Invitational. He captured his 14th career individual title as he won the 8,000-meter race with a time of 26:10 for the third fastest 8K time in school history. Holzapfel finished a full three minutes ahead of the second place runner. Holzapfel, the 2009 SAC Men's Runner of the Year, also owns 15 of the top twenty 8K times in school history, including the top 10 times.
Bishoff, a junior from Winder, Ga. (Athens Christian), claimed a third-place overall finish to pace the Anderson women's cross country team as the Trojans finished 22nd at the 2010 Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic Saturday. She finished third out of a total of 285 runners with a time of 18:14.25 over the 5k distance, crossing the finish line less than seven seconds out of the second spot. The event featured a field of 34 teams, including five Division I squads from around the South and Midwest.
