Wieberg Named Director of Strategic Communications For South Atlantic Conference

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- The South Atlantic Conference has named Eric Wieberg as Director of Strategic Communications, Commissioner Patrick Britz announced on Thursday.

In this position, Wieberg will be responsible for directing the SAC's media and public relations efforts, in addition to expanding the conference's digital and social media presence, administering the awards program and producing league publications. Wieberg will also assist in enhancing the SAC's broader marketing and branding strategies.

"Eric is going to be a wonderful addition to the not only the SAC office, but the league as a whole," Britz said. "His background and experience will allow the conference to enhance its media presence and allow us to expand our marketing and branding efforts."

Wieberg comes to the SAC after spending 18 months at the NCAA National Office in Indianapolis as a member of the Division I Men's Basketball staff. His role covered a wide range of responsibilities associated with the planning and execution of the 2010 and 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championships, with a primary focus on media operations for the tournament's 13 preliminary-round sites and the Final Four.

"I'm thrilled to be joining the South Atlantic Conference team and for the opportunity to work alongside Commissioner Britz, the SAC staff, and administrators and student-athletes from the conference's membership," Wieberg said. "I look forward to helping the SAC continue its growth into one of the country's premier Division II conferences."

Prior to the NCAA, Wieberg earned his Master of Education degree in sport management from the University of Texas, during which time he worked for the Longhorn Foundation - Texas' athletic fundraising arm.

He received his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Kansas, and spent all four years in Lawrence as a member of the KU athletic media relations staff.

Wieberg has gained experience from working a multitude of NCAA and Big 12 Conference events, and also completed a summer internship at the National Association of Basketball Coaches while a student at Kansas.

Originally from Lawson, Mo., Wieberg plans to reside in Rock Hill. He is set to begin his position at the SAC on Monday.
