ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Lenoir-Rhyne's Sarah Atkins has been named South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week and Newberry's Amanda Huckestein earned SAC Pitcher of the Week honors league officials announced Tuesday.

Atkins, a native of Newport News, Va., went 7-for-13 (.538) with two home runs in four games last week. In L-R's 10-0 and 8-0 wins over Anderson (S.C.), the freshman first baseman went 5-for-6 with two home runs and four RBI.

Huckestein, a 5-8 junior right-hander, improved her season record to 2-0 after earning the win in Newberry's 2-0 victory over USC-Aiken in eight innings.

The Port Charlotte, Fla. native pitched all eight innings, allowing just two hits and striking out 10. Huckestein also had the game-winning hit in the first game of the doubleheader, a 4-0 Newberry win.

The SAC Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
