Carson-Newman’s Shoemake, Tusculum’s Johnson Named Softball Players Of The Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Carson-Newman College's Bri Shoemake has been named the South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week and Tusculum College's Elizabeth Johnson earned league Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending February 14, announced conference officials Tuesday.

Shoemake, a sophomore catcher from Ooltewah, Tenn. (Ooltewah HS), guided the Lady Eagles to a 4-2 record on the week as she batted .650 (13-for-20), including hitting for the cycle in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader with Queens. Shoemake, who scored eight runs and drove in eight runs on the week, also had an on base percentage of .682 and a slugging percentage of 1.000. She went 7-for-8 to close out the week against Queens, including a 4-for-4 effort with a single, a double, a triple and a solo home run in the second game to complete the cycle. Shoemake currently leads the Lady Eagles in batting average (.593), hits (16), home runs (two) and RBIs (nine).

Johnson, a sophomore from Greenville, Wisc. (Hortonville HS), went 2-0 in two starts for the Pioneers last week, throwing a pair of complete games. She allowed three hits and one run over eight innings in a 2-1 victory at Erskine on Saturday, and came back on Sunday against Bellarmine and threw 131 pitches in a 4-3 victory over the Knights. Johnson allowed nine hits and two earned runs in 15 innings of work, striking out eight and walking three. Overall, Johnson is 3-0 with a 1.17 earned run average in four starts - all Tusculum victories.
