Catawba’s Justice, Carson-Newman’s Shealy Named Softball Players Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. -- Catawba College's Alli Justice has been named the South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week and Carson-Newman College's Mary Shealy earned league Pitcher of the Week honors for the week ending March 27, announced conference officials Monday.
Justice, a junior first baseman from Bishopville, MD (Decatur HS), led Catawba to a pair of SAC wins in its only action last week with a sweep of visiting Anderson. She went 6-for-7 (.857) with eight RBI in the doubleheader. Justice had three hits in the opener with three RBI, including a two-run double that helped Catawba rally from an early 4-0 deficit. She went 3-for-3 with five RBI in the game two win. Of her six hits, two were doubles, and she also added a stolen base and scored a run. Justice raised her average to .333 on the season and took over the team lead with 28 RBI. She also leads the squad with 13 doubles.
Shealy, a junior from Clinton, SC (Clinton HS), led the Lady Eagles to a 4-0 record with four complete-game performances, including two shutouts. Shealy allowed a total of just six runs in the four wins over Eckerd and Limestone for an earned run average of 1.40 on the week. She recorded eight strikeouts and had only one walk in 30 innings of work. Shealy also went 4-for-11 at the plate with a home run and five RBIs. Shealy is 22-8 on the year for the Lady Eagles with a 2.09 ERA and one save.
