Four Softball Teams Ranked In NCAA Region Poll
INDIANAPOLIS -- Four South Atlantic Conference softball teams are ranked in the first NCAA Division II Southeast Region poll.
Lenoir-Rhyne University is ranked second. The Bears are currently 25-6 on the year including a 4-0 mark in the South Atlantic Conference and are in the midst of a 10-game winning streak. The Bears are 24-6 against DII competition and 24-5 against in-region opponents.
Tusculum College is ranked eighth. The Pioneers entered the week with a 20-9 overall record against NCAA schools and 15-8 against regional opponents.
Carson-Newman is ranked ninth. The Eagles are 25-10-1 overall and 20-10-1 in the region. Wingate University is tenth. The Bulldogs are 20-11 overall and in the region.
North Georgia is ranked first in the region with a 30-8 overall record (23-8 region).
The rankings are through games of Sunday, March 27.
The 2011 NCAA Tournament will have a field of 64 teams competing in 16 regional sites in a four-team double-elimination tournament. The sixteen teams advancing from regional competition will participate in a two-team, best-of-three super regional at eight sites. The finals will include the eight super regional winners and will be held May 26-30 in Salem, Va.
Tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas will earn automatic bids into the NCAA Tournament.
