The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf SAC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, Feb. 3
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – No. 25 Wingate's Emily Usiak was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week, while teammate Stacey Houser was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played the opening week of the season, the League announced today.
Usiak, a junior from Matthews, N.C., hit .857 with three hits, two RBI and a home run to lead the Bulldogs to a pair of wins over No. 8 Armstrong State on Feb. 1. She reached base in six of seven plate appearances and her two-run homer in game two of the double-header fueled the Bulldogs to a 6-3 win. The honor is her first Player of the Week selection this season.
Houser, a junior from Mooresvile, N.C., posted a win and a save in her first two appearances this season. In game one of the double-header, she fired six shutout innings with one strikeout. She followed that effort in game two with a strikeout in an inning of work. Houser did not allow a run in her seven innings in the circle. The award is her first Pitcher of the Week honor this season.
