The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf SAC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, Feb. 24
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's Cailah Niles was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Lindsay Dean from Carson-Newman was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 16-22, the League announced today.
Niles, a freshman from Phenix City, Ala., batted 1.000 with six hits and nine RBI to lead the Trojans to a pair of wins over Emmanuel last week. She got her week started with three hits, a home run and five RBI in a 12-1 game one win. She stayed hot in game two with three hits, two home runs, a double and four RBI as Anderson picked up a 9-1 win. She also slugged 2.667 with no strikeouts in the two-game span. The award is her first Player of the Week selection this season.
Dean, a freshman from Coeburn, Va., struck out nine hitters in a 15-1 five-inning win over Fort Valley State on Feb. 19. She scattered only one hit in the outing and gave up just one walk. The award is her first Pitcher of the Week nod this season.
Also nominated for Softball Player of the Week: Kristen Toppel (Carson-Newman), Brittany Coursen (Lenoir-Rhyne), Amanda Snow (Lincoln Memorial) and Maude McCourry (Newberry).
