The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf SAC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, Mar. 10
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry's Maude McCourry was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Brandi Hole of Lenoir-Rhyne was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Mar. 2-8, the League announced today.
McCourry, junior from Centreville, Md., posted a .667 average at the plate with eight hits and three RBI to lead the Wolves to a 4-0 record last week. She highlighted her week with three hits and a double in a 6-4 win over Erskine on March 4. She recorded nine total bases to finish with an on-base percentage of .714, to go along with a slugging percentage of .750. The award is her first Player of the Week nod this season.
Hole, a junior from Sandy Ridge, N.C., fired two complete-game shutout wins for the Bears last week. She got her week started with four strikeouts in a win over USC Aiken on March 7 and followed that effort with three strikeouts at Francis Marion on March 8 as the Bears downed the Patriots, 4-0. The left-hander allowed just one walk and scattered eight hits in her two starts. The honor is her second Pitcher of the Week plaudit this season.
