The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf SAC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, Mar. 17
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's Jessica Neidigh was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week, while teammate Chelsea Jones was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Mar. 9-15, the League announced today.
Neidigh, a senior from Lawrencecville, Ga., posted eight hits, seven RBI, three home runs, two doubles, one triple and a .533 average at the plate to lead the Trojans to a 4-0 record last week, including a pair of wins against League foe Lenoir-Rhyne. She notched multiple hits in three of the four contests and highlighted the week with a pair of homers and three RBI in a 7-0 win over Erskine on March 10. She also had a big game in the second contest of the day vs. the Bears on March 15 as she posted three hits, a triple, a home run and three RBI to give Anderson a 6-5 win. She slugged 1.400 in the four-game span, to go along with an on-base percentage of .588. The honor is her first Player of the Week selection this season.
Jones, a freshman from Eufaula, Ala., notched two wins and a save for the Trojans last week. She got her week started with five strikeouts in a complete-game shutout win over Erskine on March 10. Five days later in game one vs. Lenoir-Rhyne, she pitched 4.2 innings with a pair of strikeouts to earn her second win of the week. In game two against the Bears, she fired 3.2 innings of relief with two strikeouts as she earned the save. She did not issue a walk in her three appearances and finished the week with nine strikeouts and an ERA of 0.91. The award is her first Pitcher of the Week nod this season.
