The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf SAC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, Mar. 24
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lenoir-Rhyne's Sarah Kenley was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Sarah Howard of Carson-Newman was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Mar. 16-22, the League announced today.
Kenley, a sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., pounded out 12 hits, five doubles, two home runs and a .444 average at the plate to lead the Bears to a 5-3 record last week. She posted multiple hits in three games, including four hits against Brevard on March 21. Against Newberry on March 17, Kenley drove in all three Bear runs as Lenoir-Rhyne picked up a 3-1 win. She posted nine RBI in the eight-game span, to go along with a slugging percentage of .852. The award is her first Player of the Week selection this season.
Howard, a junior from Georgetown, Ky., posted three wins and seven strikeouts for the Eagles last week. She highlighted her week with an eight-inning shutout win over Catawba on March 21. She struck out five Catawba Indian hitters in the outing and gave up just a pair of hits. Howard allowed just one run in 17.2 innings of work as Howard saw just one ball leave the infield. The honor is her first Pitcher of the Week nod this season.
