The South Atlantic Conference Announces Softball Players of the Week, Feb. 16

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry's Christina Linton was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Augie Pena of Anderson was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 8-14, the League announced today.

Linton, a junior from Odessa, Fla., hit .615 with eight hits, seven RBI and a 1.154 slugging percentage to guide the Wolves to a 4-0 record last week.  She posted a hit in all four games played, including a pair of multi-hit and multi-RBI contests.  She highlighted her week with a single, a double and a home run as well as four RBI in Newberry's 6-0 win over North Greenville on Feb. 13.  She finished the week with a pair of long balls, seven runs-scored and an on-base percentage of .667.  The honor is her first Player of the Week nod this season.

Pena, a junior from Geneva, Ala., notched three wins, one save and 31 strikeouts in 20 innings-pitched last week.  She got her week started with five strikeouts in five innings-pitched to pick up the win over North Greenville on Feb. 11.  She followed that effort with two strikeouts in one inning of work to pick up the save against the Crusaders in game two of the double-header.  Two days later against Augusta, Pena posted 11 strikeouts in a complete game win and finished her week with 13 strikeouts in a complete game shutout win over Winston-Salem on Feb. 14.  She gave up just two earned runs in her outings, scattering seven hits.  The honor is her first Pitcher of the Week selection this season.
