The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson infielder Rachel Barefield has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Softball Player of the Week, and Queens right-handed pitcher Courtney Pearson has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Mar. 19-25, the League announced today.

Barefield a senior from Opelika, Ala., was instrumental in Anderson's two-game sweep of Carson-Newman last week. She batted .667 with two doubles, a home run and five RBI. She also had an on-base percentage of .714 and a 1.500 slugging percentage.

Pearson, a sophomore from Candler, N.C., led the Royals to a 3-1 record last week, picking up two wins and a save in the circle. She earned a pair of wins, including a complete game victory, against Newberry, and earned the save in the Royal's win over Carson-Newman. For the week, she threw 18 and two-thirds innings, allowing three earned runs on 18 hits with 17 strikeouts.

These are the first Player of the Week honors for both Barefield and Pearson this season.
