LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Tusculum's Chloe Freischmidt and North Georgia's Kylee Smith were named 2020 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for their outstanding play during games played, Feb. 17-23.
Freischmidt hit .545 (6-for-11) with two doubles, two grand slams and 11 RBI over four games last weekend. The sophomore catcher slugged 1.273 and recorded a .583 on-base percentage. Her second grand slam of the week broke a 3-3 deadlock in the fifth, catapulting the Pioneers to a 8-3 game-one victory over Davis & Elkins. Freischmidt was not done yet as she stroked a two-out walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to complete the sweep of the Senators. In a doubleheader sweep of Cedarville, the South Atlantic Conference Astroturf Player of the Week cracked her first granny of the weekend in game two, while knocking in two runs in game one of the twinbill.
