The South Atlantic Conference Announces Astroturf Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Softball Players of the Week for games played in the fourth weekend of the 2022 season. Carson-Newman's Macey Hughes earns the Player honor while Lenoir-Rhyne's Lauren Rakes earns the Pitcher of the Week honors.

A sophomore outfielder, Hughes, was an instrumental part in helping the Eagles to a perfect 4-0 record this past weekend. Overall, the Corryton, Tenn., native averaged a .385 batting average, going 5-for-13 from the plate with a 1.385 slugging percentage, 13 RBI's, five runs scored and four home runs. This is Hughes' first Player of the Week honor of the season.

Rakes, a junior pitcher, helped the Bears improve to a 13-6 record on the season and 4-0 record on the week while playing 26 total innings. Overall, the Hamptonville, N.C., native walked away with only 13 hits and three walks, while striking out 44. In her time on the mound, she allowed only three runs scored and put down a no hitter against Le Moyne. This is Rakes' second Pitcher of the Week honor of the season.
