Catawba's Balderston and Coker's Fedewa Named South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Catawba's Savanna Balderston was selected as the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Player of the Week, while Coker's Jenae Fedewa was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played during week three of the 2023 season, the Conference office announced today.

Balderston, a sophomore outfielder from Belews Creek, NC, went 7-for-12 as part of Catawba's 4-0 week including three doubles and eight runs driven in. She piled on four RBI in Catawba's 13-4 win over Belmont Abbey in which the team scored ten unanswered runs. Then, in the opener against West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, she had three hits, driving in a run home each time. 

Fedeawa, a senior pitcher from Winter Park, FL, threw her first collegiate no-hitter as the Cobras defeated Converse 9-0 on Wednesday. She sat down 16 of the 17 batters that she faced with four strikeouts and allowed just one walk in the five innings that she pitched.
