Tusculum's Freischmidt and Wingate's Cutcher Named South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Tusculum's Chloe Freischmidt was selected as the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Player of the Week, while Wingate's Raechel Cutcher was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played during week four of the 2023 season, the Conference office announced today.
Freischmidt, a senior catcher from Naples, Fla., recorded her 100th career RBI as she led the Pioneers to a perfect 4-0 week, posting a .583 batting average with three home runs, two doubles and eight RBI. She scored at least twice in every game and homered in 3-of-4 games with no strikeouts. She opened the week going 4-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI in a doubleheader sweep over Bluefield State. Freischmidt followed with a 3-for-7 performance in a sweep of Southern Wesleyan. She scored two runs in each game while hitting a double and a home run in the final game of the week. Freischmidt is batting .339 this season and is third on the roster with her 14 RBI.
Cutcher, a senior pitcher from Orlando, Fla., made five appearances last week, leading the Bulldogs to a 6-1 week which included a 4-1 mark at the NFCA Lead-Off Classic, where she earned a spot on the All-Tournament team. Cutcher went 3-0 on the week, allowing just 1 earned run in 17 innings and striking out 27 without a walk. She now has 52 strikeouts and just one walk this year. Cutcher was perfect in her four innings at UNCP, striking out 10 of the 12 batters she faced without allowing a base runner. She went the distance in the West Chester win, allowing an unearned run on five hits while striking out 12 more without a walk. Cutcher picked up the victory against Columbus State, going 4 2/3 innings while allowing just a run against the Cougars. She tossed one perfect inning in the Gannon shutout, striking out two of the three batters she faced.
